E68 Asks if AI Will Displace Aspiring GenZ Influencers

In E68 of Localogy’s This Week in Local, co-hosts Mike Boland and Charles Laughlin ask if GenZ’s who dream of becoming influencers should consider another career choice. And why should they? Well, AI of course is poised to disrupt the influencer marketing industry.

The analysts cite data showing that about half of GenZ’s say they would enjoy a career sunning poolside for brand deals. They then pierce this bubble by citing a growing consensus that at least some brands will build virtual influencers using AI tools like Sora and Midjourney rather than pay living breathing influencers. A cottage industry is emerging to build AI influencers designed for brand collabs.

While this trend may not bode well for aspiring young influencers, the analysts agreed that some flavors of influencer marketing may enjoy some immunity from AI. One example is the emerging category of local influencers. Hummingbirds exemplifies this branch of influencer marketing.
